1999 Sebring transmission engages at 2000 RPM
My Daughters 1999 Sebring convertable has a transmission issue.
It went from working perfectly to not good at all while engaging it in gear.
If the car is sitting on level ground and you start it, all is good so far.
When you put it in drive or reverse, nothing happens.
If you give it gas, when the rpms get to abaout 2000, the transmission jumps into gear and the car lurches forward like you dropped it in from neutral to drive. Does the same thing in reverse. The car launches and bucks.
Any ideas?

1. Check the level and quality of the fluid. If uncertain of the maintenance history, it would be a good idea to change the fluid and filter. Replace the fluid with the exact fluid specified in the owners manual.
2. Consider replacing the solenoid pack. It's a fairly easy DIY project for not much money. You can probably do it for less money than you would pay for a diagnosis fee at a trans shop. Search the forum here and the internet generally for how-to information. There's a lot of information that's out there and easily found.
If those two things don't do it, you may have to take it to a transmission shop for proper diagnosis with electronic and hydraulic hook-ups of their diagnostic equipment.
