Unhappy Chrysler Sebring 2005 problems with TCM/Transmission please help.

Hello every Chrysler fan, I need your help in saving my beloved Chrysler Sebring 2005 2,7L.
It all started a month ago when the transmission display showed P, R, N, D all of them lit up at the sametime or also didnt show them at all sometimes, while also showing the MIL on the dashboard lit.
I returned it to the workshop for troubleshoot where they could read the codes:
U0101 and P1603.

He said to find the real issue he would need to do a full diagonstic taking atleast 4 hours and costing me roughly 1200USD only for work hours and no parts included.
I read somewhere that the Transmission Range Sensor can give a similiar reading and error, just replacing that one would be a third of the cost but is that gonna fix the issue?
Have any of you guys had a similiar error before?

I really really love this car and I want to fix it but the current repair will in the end exceed its total value and I cant afford it sadly
Sorry for my english I do not live in the US but in Sweden.

That's going to be a tough one.
P1603 apparently indicates either a bad fused ignition switch circuit (basically, power feed from the ignition switch to the PCM), or worse a bad PCM all together.
U0101 means it lost comms with the TCM,which is a semi-bizarre code since it's all one box, but I'm guessing it's a semi-left over from when they were split.

I'd start at the ignition switch and hope/pray it's just that, a bad switch or possibly a loose wire.

And, holy hell your labor rates are insane!

the p1603 is ram failure in the pcm so check the fuses first make sure none are blown for the ignition not all good then a pcm is needed

Thank you for all the replies and sorry for the late response. I had my brakes fixed on the car after it was standing to long in parking (been a rough summer). Was about to drive it to the mechanic to have another workshop with better prices take a look at it.
However when I started driving it the condition now got worse, its now stuck in gear 1 and the speedometer seems to not always read the input and doesnt show the cars speed at all times.
Does this narrow the issue abit or does it just make everything worse?

Also the ignition switch might be semi bad like you said cause I remember not so long ago that the car didnt always fully turn off at all times if I wasnt "super careful" with how I removed the key. By not turning off completly I mean that the total mileage and certain stuff was still displaying on the screen even though the key was taken out of the switch until I "re-did it" and it finally shut all displays off.

I would suggest having the battery and charging system tested. Chryslers do not tolerate low voltages and all sorts of weird and random may result. The reason I note having the charging system tested is I have had a failing alternator cause an ac (alternating current) ripple cause a reset of various system.

As the issue appears to have worsened after sitting, I suggest an inspection of the engine and engine compartment grounds. A poor/corroded can cause a low voltage condition. Be certain both ends of the battery cables are clean and secure. Disconnect and inspect the major connectors around the underhood fuse box for corrosion (green stuff on contacts).

Yeah I have no idea what to tell the mechanic to investigate first, I know the battery is fairly new and it shows good volts still at around 12.6-13 after being offline for a day or two and 14 while driving. I have a small voltage meter inside that was added.
Is it possible to change the PCM yourself? or does it need reset softwares and codes etc to swap out? Other parts that is new is the radio that was swapped out to a modern one 1 year ago. Not sure if that could mess with the system?

when you can drive it, is it a rock steady voltage reading? as in not boucing around much more than .1 or .2 volts (and possibly even not that much.)

the ignition cylinder issue; the internals are broken. it's not a big deal but as you noticed you can remove the key at inappropriate times. on my convertible I can take the key completely out after the car is started!
kind of a neat trick to spook the passengers with sometimes, I admit.

ECU replacement, you either need to find a same year same trim vehicle and steal it from that, then have a shop change the VIN and program the SKIM to accept it., which can be a hassle now as the dealers (at least around here) have gone full blown **** on giving out the PIN codes to the rightful owners.

Haha that is a neat trick indeed with the key, I will have to try with the voltage but all these errors with no speedometer working and stuck in gear 1 cant be linked to faulty transmissions sensors you think?
I just wish my chrysler would run again it hasnt even gone more than 99419 miles (american unit). Its my first car
