Code P0456 Very slight Evap Leak

Bought 2002 Sebering Convertible 2.7 V6. About 5 weeks latercheck engine light on. Took it to mechainic. The code is P0456 very slight evap leak. Tightened up Gas Cap. Two days later check engine light is on again. Took it back to the mechanic replaced the gas cap. If that doesn't fix the problem he said I may have to take it to dealership. He said he does not have a smoke test machine. Two days later check engine light on. Any suggestions to the problems that are typical to thiscode.Any ideas on what are the parts, hosesthat are the typicalculprits.

Your evap (charcoal) cannister, duty cycle purge solenoid, and related vacuum hoses are suspect.

RE: Code P0456 Very slight Evap Leak

Thank you Moe and irdaneel for the information on the possible repairs to the questionposted 3-15-2008. I check under the hood and removed the air cleaner box assembly, but did not notice any problem. Since I am at a condo complex I could not get any more involve because of the rules relating to working on your car. I took the car to a Gulf Cost Dodge dealer in Ft. Myers,FL where they preformed a smoke test and discover a split hose. They charged $99 for the investigation and test and $8.00 for the hose. I was made aware of the $99 before the testing when I took the car in, but what was one to do. Luckily it was only the hose. They even said if the code reoccurs with in a couple of months that they would waive the $99 fee.
This form is very helpful and I appreciate the help that both of you provided.

Awesome

I have a Town and Country mini van that gave the same code. Could you tell me about where the tube was located please?

P0456 Fault code

Hey Bob, I have the same problem on a 2002 Sebring Lxi Sedan. Replaced gas cap and some split hosing between the gas tank and evap. canister. Light still on. I'm having it smoke tested tomorrow, there are some hoses on the top of the gas tank that are vulnerable to cracking with age, could be the evap canister leaking or faulty solenoid valve.

What was the fix for your issue?

LondonLad 05-16-2013 02:19 PM

Duh, sorry Bob, just read your post. Hope mine is just a split hose too!

Did you clear the code after replacing the split hose? If you did not clear the code, it may take a few driving cycles for the light to turn itself off.
