Coolant Overflowing when fan isn't running

Hey guys, hoping someone out there can help me....

I have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring with a 2.7 V6. The other day I noticed my coolant was overflowing so I started looking for the culprit. What I found is that when the engine heats up to running temp the coolant will start overflowing until the fan comes on. When the fan starts, the coolant level in the overflow tank drops immediately... until the fan stops running then it starts overflowing again.

Any ideas what's causing this?

It's not bubbling and the engine is not running hot. When it starts to overflow, I can still stick my finger in the coolant and while it's hot, it's not at a level that would cause a burn so I know it's not an overheating issue.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

When the car warms up feel the top and bottom radiator hose. If one feels cooler than the other you may have a slightly blocked radiator. That's a fairly common problem. It may be blocked enough where it's restricting the flow but not overheating.

If the coolant level in the radiator back to its previous state is it possible that somewhere blocked.
If the coolant diminished it may be damaged head gasket.

Thanks guys, going to check out the upper/lower radiator suggestion but we found the thermostat was seized open.

Thermostat seized open should not cause either overheating or the boiling problem you described. If it was seized shut, then it might. Make sure it's not in upside down when you replace it.
