install interior

2001 Convertible

In my efforts to make my car look as good as it can after tearing apart the interior, I've finally decided to fix an old problem. Several years ago, the rear window broke and a lot of snow got in the back before I could get it to an upholsterer to fix it. Cruel of them to have closed early on Christmas eve. The minor water damage caused the carpeting (padding? batting? whatever) to soften and curl up in the back. It will not stay were it is supposed to on its own, so I will have to sew and tie it in place somehow. But I've realized that I honestly do not know exactly how it is supposed to lay. There are a few curled metal protrusions in the back; does the carpet go over or under those? I think that photos I've seen on line show it under, but I cannot tell for certain.

Are you talking about the boot area when you say "back"? Or the rear seat area?

Behind the rear seat. Just under the glass.

The carpet goes under those curly things. You may be able to access the screws between the curls and install the thing after the carpet is in place.
