My 07 Chrysler Sebring will not start

I just bought my car used a few months ago. I have really enjoyed having it until recently. It would turn on and then turn right back off. It did it a few times and then stopped. Well, a few days ago it did it again but this time it has not turned back on. A red light on my dash has turned on and so has the engine light. I was told that it could be the bcm or the s.k.i.m. I am vrey frustrated so if anyone can give me some info i would appreciate it. I am a single mom on a tight budget!

More than Likely a defective ignition Key......

The check engine lamp will likely be a 513 code, for Invalid Skim message......

Easy solution....Try your spare Key.....

Sometimes, if you have a lot of keys and things like a speed pass on your key ring, the SKIM might get confused. Try it with the bare key and see if that helps.

I have no spare key

Shame on you!!!! No spare Key???? .... And dont give me any excuses about the expense of a Key........Because if you ever lost the ONE you have, Getting one Made from scratch will cost you 3 times what the key alone will cost you......

No that your good and flamed at me for being so arrogant:):)

Unfortunately there is NOTHING cheap about the situation you are having.....So Bite the Bullet, and decide where you want to go from here....

First off...Get BCM out of your mind completely...he has Nothing to do with it.
SKIM on the other hand, is responsible for reading the code implanted in the fob of your Key.... From there, skim tells PCM that a VALID key has been inserted, and it is ok to run the start sequence.

Is this just a Plain Key, or do you have Lock unlock functions on the key as well.....

If The Lock /unlock functions ..or RKE (Remote keyless entry) function properly, it is unlikely that SKIM is an Issue.....

And get a spare key . for God sakes will ya.....:):)
