New speaker(s)

2001 Sebring convertible with Infinity system.

My right driver's door speaker has been buzzing, so I replaced it with a Sony Eplod 6x9 3-way. I know it isn't the best speaker in the world, but I am amazed at how horrible it sounds. I get very little bass and a faint buzzing. My thought is that the signal from the stereo is already being split, only the bass signal is getting to the speaker, and the speaker is then trying to split that signal again between the bass, mid, and tweeter.

Any thoughts on what the problem is and what I can do?

Look online for an hour, find nothing, so make a post. Keep looking online and two minutes later, see the problem.

Most of these vehicles are equipped with stock Infinity sound systems. The factory amp is located under the passenger seat, and includes a built-in crossover that sends only bass to the front door speakers, and treble to the dash tweeters. If you replace the door speakers and want them to play full range, you'll have to bypass the factory amplifier. This usually means disconnecting the factory dash speakers, or installing an in-line crossover on the tweeter wiring if you want to keep them in the system.
Anyone know what can be done to add new speakers? Is there a simple fix or bypass I can do? Frankly, I do not understand the above quote. I don't understand why new speakers cannot get the bass signal from the amp, or why adding another crossover would allow the tweeters to work again.

Or; Can I just buy any Chrysler Infinity 6x9 speaker on eBay?

I would try to keep it stock or replace the whole system. Trying to substitute oddball pieces in a balanced system is asking for problems.

One more thought before you give up on your Infinity sound system. The Chrysler system is very smart. It is balanced for the acoustics of the vehicle, and it knows whether your top is up or down. The balance changesfor the top-down mode. If youpull the radio out, one of the connections you will find is a small two-wire plug that is connected to the vehicle data bus. That gets signals from the body computer and that's how it knows whether the top is up or down.

No way will you get that sort of sophistication out of some aftermarket one-size-fits-all replacement.

Well, my cheapness has me wanting to keep the system stock as well. That being the case; what can I do about a replacement speaker? Can I get any Chrysler Infinity 6x9 from eBay?

I found a replacement radio for my 01 convertible. If you keep your eye peeled, you might find what you need. Occasionally somebody will be parting out a car and will be overjoyed to sell you whatever.
