Noisy transmission
 

Conv. V6 2.7 2003 110K Mls. Well serviced. Gearbox rattles when starting, the sound changes if shifted D_N_R Sounds like a loose wheel on a shaft. Fades out after 2-3 miles, same hot or cold. And then a day with nothing. Car runs good

. I have heard a story of a plate inside the trans that can come loose and that there is a cover or hatch to get into it w/o removing it from car.
Any ideas ???

I have a 1997 Chrysler Sebring with an automatic transmission. My problem is that it will shift from first gear, but afterwards it seems as if it is stuck or something. It just won't shift anymore. It has a little under 87,000 miles. No-one can seem to pinpoint the problem. Does anyone have that problem?

Your transmission is probably in "limp mode". That is a protective condition which will allow you to drive at moderate speeds to a repair facility. When there is a problem detected by the computer, it will put the transmission in limp mode. The cause of the condition could be many things, but there will be a code or codes stored in the computer that will assist the repair facility in coming up with the proper diagnosis. Nobody here can guess what that might be. You will need to take the car to a repair facility with proper diagnostic equipment for testing. A reputable transmission shop is probably your best bet. If it is a good shop, it will have the proper code reader to be able to get the transmission codes and then apply additional diagnostic equipment to find out what is going on. Not all code readers can properly read transmission codes.
