not shifting out of first

2003 2.7 automatic 4 speed

not shifting out of 1st
works in drive but does not shift out of 1st

dash lights are lit up with all drives in boxes instead of just the letters P R D 1 2 3 4

Could be a couple of things...
First try disconnecting both the + and = battery cable ends, while off Clean the posts on the battery AND the cable clamps.
Then follow the =(negative cable) to the body AND down to the engine and clean them. Use dielectric grease at all connections to help prevent corrosion.
Second, Is the CEL light on also?... Need to get the code(s) stored in the computer that is turning on the dash CEL light and post them here so we can try and help figure out what is going on.

thank you for the quick response

will get to it in the AM and get back to you with the info

IF CEL is on when driving the car...CODES MUST BE RETRIEVED BEFORE THE BATTERY GETS DISCONNECTED. Or they will be erased and you won't find any to work from.
