Parking Brake Adjustment
 

I have a 2004 Sebring sedan with 28000 miles. The parking brake handle almost goes all the way when using it and I would like to adjust it. I was wondering how this was done. Do you have to remove the rear disks and adjust the parking brake shoes on both sides of the car, or do you adjust the cable? If you adjust the cable, how do you go about doing that?:confused:

I found how to do the adjustment. I had to remove the center console.
1. pull off the PRNDL indicator and remove (2) phillips screws, & remove light electrical connector. 2. remove (2) phillips screws from inside the console storage area. 3. remove (2) T10 Torx screws from each lower side (next to the front seats). 4. I had the parking brake handle in the up position so I could pull the console up far enough to see and adjust the cable nut (13 or 14MM I can't remember now). I marked it with a Sharpie so I could count the number of turns. Clockwise to tighten & counterclockwise to loosen. I did it so fast I didn't think to get out my camera to take pictures.

You can also adjust the parking brake shoes. They operate in a small drum within the rear disks. It's a conventional star wheel adjustment like in a rear drum brake.

I see that can be a good way to adjust the parking brake when you already have the wheels off for a brake inspection, or any other brake work.:)
