question about tranny leak
 

My trans is leaking right where the tranny module is mounted, just above the tranny pan. Module is a black box with harness plugged into it. Wanting to know if I can buy a gasket for it since it looks like there is one there? Has anyone delt with this problem before?Thanks for any info.

By the way it's a 2004 sebring with the 2.4l engine.

You can get the gasket but it comes with a brand new solinoid pack at least thats what happens most the time.

Did you check the transmission cooler lines? These lines like to leak a lot and it can look like the solinoid pack is leaking. just remove the air filter housing and tube to get a good look at it from above.

Thanks for the reply, I will check the cooler lines tomorrow. I hope it's that simple cause I'm sure the solenoid pack is expensive!!

I am having the same issue on my 02 2.4L, pictures attached...

Anyhow I noticed on teardown (very slight teardown ;)) that the hoses from the cooler did have fluid on them, however on inspection and cleanup I don't see any cracks or cuts.........

I went to the two local autoparts (autozone and o'reillys) and autozone was able to special order the tranny lines for 14.99 plus tax each.

Although I have a natural aversion to the dealership I don't live far from one so I popped in there and wouldn't you know it, 11.00 a piece, 2 on hand, they are going on as we speak...

I'll button it back up and report back if a leak still exists.

Oh and I hope it is nothing more than this..... Like the module below.

According to the listing at chryslerparts.net, you should be able to buy the solenoid pack gasket separately. Here's the basic part number: 04659982

BTW, to replace the gasket, you must remove the solenoid pack. That does NOT involve removing the torx-headed screws on the front of the pack, but rather the three vertically oriented bolts that come in from the top. To get to them, you remove the cooling lines and the input speed sensor directly under the cooling lines.

I'll have to talk to my parts guys they always give me both...... anyways... most the time when these lines leak they dont have any cracks on them or tears they just get hard and don't seal very well.

I have a 2004 Sebring Sedan and I have already dealt with this problem. It occurred shortly after I purchased the car used with ~36,000 miles. It was a few drops here and there. Eventually the fluid spread on the pavement enough so that it actually looked like a big leak. So firstly, I took it in and the dealer checked the fluid level and not much had been lost, they then tightened the hose clamps, which appeared to fix it for two or three weeks. Then the spots on the driveway appear again. Next up, they replace the hoses for $100. The problem goes away for at least 6 months. Then the spots are back again. I decide to try a different dealer than where I bought my car. This dealership replaces the selenoid. I think the cost on that repair came in under $200. The problem has not returned in roughly 2 years, thankfully. I guess it was multiple failures over time, I do not know.

Thankyou dodgetech1 for the insite on the cooler lines. They were both loose, all four clamps were so loose that I could grab the hoses and turn them. I just tightend them and the leaks stopped. Why they waited until 101,000 miles to loosen up is a mystery? But I will keep a close eye on them. Tranny was down a good quart of fluid.
