Radio harness help

I'm trying to put a radio/tape/cd combo into an 02 Sebring convertible and am running into problems trying to match the wiring.

Brief history: I had an 01 LXi vert that got totalled. When the accident happened, I was trying to figure out how to remove the blend air door motor, so the radio/CD player were on my bench. I bought an 02 LX to replace my broken car, and the PO had apparently put in an aftermarket stereo, and he cut off the connectors for the factory stereo. I got connectors from the boneyard (didn't think to check the year of that donor), but the wire colours don't quite match up. My "new" 02 came with the radio/tape unit with the CD controls, but not the CD player. My original 01 and the donor car both had the radio/tape/CD combo installed, and they both had the Infinity system. The O (the one I have now) did not.

Anyway, in trying to match up the wiring to splice the "new" connectors, all the wires match up except one. On the donor connector (the black one), there is a green/red wire that doesn't match. In the vehicle I now have, there is a black wire that doesn't match up. I've looked at wiring harness descriptions for 01 and 02 Sebrings online, but the wire colours in the descriptions are not even close to what I have.

I'm hoping someone here can help me sort this out, and that I('m not totally screwed in trying to fit an Infinity head unit into a car that did not have one to begin with.

I don't have a specific answer to your question, but in automobile wiring, a black wire is invariably a ground. Any wire with red in it is usually a power wire. The other color with the red can indicate that it is switched (e.g. routed through the ignition switch) or fused or shared with some other component. Also, the Infinity system had an amplifier under the front passenger seat which the base system did not have. That required a completely different set of wires.

Thank you, Dcotter.

Would the head unit also be different for the Infinity system?

This contains the wiring diagrams, so it should help you figure it out.

Yes. It controls the amplifier.
