Reliability issues? 2.4 owners?

Are there any members with an 01+ Sebring that has had MAJOR problems of any kind? Anyone who would know of typical problems otherwise? My neighbor had an 02 Sebring (2.4) and it "blew up" on her. It overheated and started smoking, and there was oil and coolant all over the place under the hood. I'm just assuming she had a blown gasket issue (I wasn't there, she just told me the story so I'm just guessing). I'm just hoping that's not common on these engines. It happened to her at around 75,000 miles. (I also read somewhere that the water pumps on these engines are bad and usually last about 3 years...that may have been her issue)

Also...are these interference engines?
