Default sebring po500 and po700

Wife's 2000 sebring had issues today. after stopping, she went to get on freeway, and vehicle did not want to shift out of first, and speedometer stopped working. rpms fine, trans fluids looks and smells good.

After the costly tow, I nabbed a friends odb2 and took the codes. First was a po500 which is vehicle speed sensor, and a po700, a trans control system.

Where do I go from here? Is the vehicle speed sensor malfunction causing the trans code, or the other way around? Any help would be appreciated.
