1997 sebring jxi convertible 2.5l v-6
scan at autozone shows codes P0171 and P0134, looking for opinions on wheather changing the front O2 sensor will solve problem.
car seems to run fine, and there is seems to be no difference wheather the light is on or not.
have work order from previous owner who had main brake line replaced on 4/14/08 note on order says "engine light - O2 sensor B1S1 clear code + road test"$50 -there is no listing in the parts column for an O2 sensor and it appears to me that the one on the car is the original, (the one after the converter appears to be newer however)need to get a 22mm? wrench to remove it.
any comments/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Both those codes could be caused by a bad upstram O2 sensor. They can be caused by other things too, but the both together mean that I would definitely suspect that as a prime culprit.

There are specially made sockets to remove and replace the O8[size=2]9 sensor. They have a slot in the side to accomodate the wire. They might be able to loan you one at Autozone, especially if you buy the part there. You can also buy one on line pretty easily.

The new sensor should come with anti-seize on the threads. If not, spend a buck for one of those little packs and use it.

After you have replaced the sensor, you may have to clear the code with the scanner to turn the light off. Otherwise, you may have to wait several trips for it to clear itself.
