squealing from engine

Before I replaced the belts turning the steering wheel far left or far right would create a loud squealing noise, now that I replaced the belts I am getting the squealing noise at idle or low RPM, the only way the noise goes away is when I rev up the motor.

Did I need to tighten the belt more, or could something else cause this

The most common cause of squealing is a belt that's not tensioned properly, but it's not the only possibility. Before you do anything else though, make sure the belts are at the correct tension.

i have the same problem (squeal at low rev) i used a stetoscope, and i presume the noise is coming from the alternator pulley.

yes, I just re tighten the belts, helps if you have someone hold the breaker bar while you tighten the bolts
