Default Starter or engine 2.7 Sebring?

Hi,
New kid on the block with a 2004 Sebring 2.7 convertible. Had it about 2 years and have really liked it! Recently however I changed the purge valve . About a month later severe overheating checked purge took in about 2 gallons of coolant! Seemed ok! Checked again about a week later about a gallon low! no coolant on ground none in oil! Recently having starting issues put in new battery-walmart does it no charge! It will start ok first time but if I make more than 1 stop I get a slow starter and won't turnover till I let it cool down. Is the starter bad-or do I have a fried engine? Can I test the starter without removing it? It appears to be an adventure! Thanks for any input!

Do a compression check to see if you have a blown head gasket.
