Synthetic change-over
At 19,000 miles, what would ALL the benefits be of changing to synthetic oil for my 2.4L? I mean, I know some, but I'm not sure if I know everything about synthetic oil. And should I use Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer? A couple people have suggested that to me. Thanks.

RE: Synthetic change-over
I have a 2002 LXi and switched over to Royal Purple synthetic oil and I went from 23 mpg city / 26 mpg highway to 26/30. It took awhile for this to happen, but it did. I would strongly suggest switching over to synthetic of some type.

RE: Synthetic change-over
My brother runs Mobile 1 synth in his NSX and keeps telling me to do it to but at 80K miles will it really do me any good? he also has about 80K on his NSX but hes a performance nut so thats why I know he uses it.

RE: Synthetic change-over
So do you like the Syntec to Mobil 1?? I've always used Mobil 1 but am open for new ideas. Why the Castrol?? Oh and It's almost time for my first oil change. Synthetic?? Do ya think??

RE: Synthetic change-over
I may have posted worng in reply, Im sorry I thought the name of the oil was MOBILE 1 SYNTHETIC that my brother uses maby its not MOBILE "1" It made by MOBILE and its the SYNTHETIC that he does use.
I havent used synthetis at all in any of my cars. Its expensive and if you got to spend 5 bucks a quart only to dump it after 3k miles as I do wih regular 10W30 then I figure Ill just use conventional oil and save money. Weather it really will reduce engine ware so late in my cars may not even be an issue at this point. |
RE: Synthetic change-over
sxtnny...i used syntech because that was what we had in the shop for the drag car. i honestly dont remember what kind of synthetic i put in when i changed it last time...:D
i know that it was castrol. |
RE: Synthetic change-over
How is it possible to gain a lot of mileage per gallon by changing to synthetic? That doesn't sound possible.

RE: Synthetic change-over
i wouldnt you will gain ALOT of MPG...but may likely notice a difference.

RE: Synthetic change-over
Ok. Well one guy I know of said he gained 5% better economy, but it happened over a good chunk of time, and that change could happen for a variety of reasons not just the synthetic oil. One guy earlier in this post said his gains were almost 16% (from 26hwy to 30hwy). That just kind of shocked me. That's like going from winter driving to summer driving.
