Transmission and Differential Question.

Hey guys, new member here. I just recently had to put my girlfriend's 1999 Sebring Limited vert in the shop for a transmission issue. They guy tells me that the differential is shot, and that the transmission and differential are all one piece, so the whole thing has to be replaced. Is this true? Is it all actually one piece? He also told me that they didnt make new transmission/differentials for that car anymore as well, that we'd have to go with a used or rebuilt one.Is this also true? Thanks in advance for your help!

call a dealer for the parts issue and they will tell u if the diff can be replaced by itself and I know we sell more remain then new but they might have some call around

RE: Transmission and Differential Question.

Yes the trans and diff are one unit in a FWD car. ALL FWD cars are like this. Yes you can buy differential parts seperately. Really depends on what the damage is. Did the pin go through the case and damage it? For the cost and labour to install the diff parts,it maybe cheaper in the long run to just install a reman transaxle. At my dealership,we can buy a jobber or a mopar reman unit cheaper then we can rebuild it.

Thanks for the response guys. I'm not sure what the exact damage is, I guess I should find out. The tech just said the differential was shot. I guess I'll go with the remanufactured one. Thanks again!

RE: Transmission and Differential Question.

My diff went in my caravan too. The pin went through the casing too. It was twice as much to rebuild as it was to get a reman, but reman only had a 1 month warranty, the rebuilt had one year. I knew a few people that had replaced 3 or 4 reman's, so I went for the rebuild. With oil changes at every 30K miles, it never had a minutes trouble for the next 6 years till I gave it away.
