Transmission question

I recently purchased a 2001 Chrysler Sebring sedan, 2.7 liter engine. I have a rough shifting problem when down shifting from 4th to 3rd gear (automatic transmission). The rough shift occurs while im breaking at about 30 mph. Is this a common issue with Chrysler transmissions? It seems like I may have a faulty sensor or low fluid level. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!!!!

RE: Transmission question

It's common enough to be discussed several times on the forum. Browse around and you'll pick up several threads. Since this is a used car, you probably don't have any maintenance history, so you should change the tranmission fluid right away. Make sure you get ATF+4 type 9602 fluid. That may solve your problem all by itself. You could have a problem with your solenoid pack, or maybe something simple like a bad electrical connection or sensor. The computer that controls the transmission may be throwing error codes so you want to get them read.

RE: Transmission question

My new Avenger has the same tranny and only 18K miles and does the same thing when it's cold.
