What is a fair price?
 

Hi,
I am looking at a 2004 Sebring convertible limited with 89,000 miles. Blue with slate interior & top. Chrome wheels and loaded. Problem is it has a "few" issues. (Don't they all). The lower fabric of the back window is delaminating from the glass so at very least needs new back window (maybe new top while I'm at it). It needs a lower front balljoint so I know it at least needs the lower front pair and an alignment. The top hydraulics leak so it does not work. Seller says it is the line set ($100. for the set), but I figure it will need both cylinders also ($125. each cylinder (no labor). Getting to need rear tires (2 front one are new). Last, but certainly not least, it is time to change out the water pump and timing chains. One shop wants $3,000 to do that job, but I can do it myself for about $650. in parts. He started out at $3,500. and I made the mistake of offering $2,300 over the phone. He countered at $2,500. After looking the car over I told him $2,000. was it. He says he will try to sell it for some more because he thinks he can get a little more. He is a young man who flips cars. Says he has a loan of about $1,700. on it. I just wanted your wise opinions on what you would offer. I thank you all once again for all of your awesome help. George

Like everything else that has been bought and sold since the beginning of time, it's worth exactly what a willing buyer is prepared to pay for it, and not a dime more. If you, with your eyes wide open and fully knowledgeable of its problems are willing to take on the car as a project at that price, go for it. You'll have a good time fixing it up and when it's done, you'll have the personal satisfaction of bring it back to life. That is hard to measure in dollars and cents.
There are discussions about many of the issues you mention both here and over on the Chrysler Sebring Convertible Club website, so help and suggestions are not hard to find.

I just bought my 2005 Convertible Touring Option. Fully loaded and with no problems. The going price I have seen for mileage in the 75k to 105k has been around $2200 to $2600.
Why jump into one with a laundry list of needed fixes? (and probably more those are not yet on the list but will quickly be discovered). In my opinion with the list of issues, the price should be south of $2k.
