2008 300C front end noise

Hello. I just spent over $2K on new OEM struts, brakes, upper and lower control arms, and the like. My car has 136K miles and I still love it. It still has a very substantial loud and loose clunking noise coming from the passenger front and the SAE certified mechanic shop I use can not figure it out. ONLY time it happens is when making an in motion LEFT turn and hitting a crack or other damage in the road while making the left turn. More pronounced when car is moving slightly downhill to the left which leads me to feel it is when more weight is being shifted onto passenger front corner. It NEVER makes this loud and loose clank/bang when turning right. My mechanics are frustrated and so am I! Other than this issue (which is sorta scary, the car is a dream). Please help.

what about wheel bearings? Changed those?

bp12080 07-20-2016 12:56 PM

No. Have no noise at all that might sound like a bearing. This is a clank/clunk upon turning and you and the passenger feel and hear it under right front. Sounds and feels like something is loose or coming apart. Mechanics are taking another shot on it today. Car must be moving pretty good and left hand turn along with a bump or notable crevice in road surface. That just triggers it. BAM! They are now focused on the body welds, and other connections/bolts. However, I still feel it is in the suspension parts. Have new struts, new upper and lower control arm parts, etc. They say all else feels tight. Maybe they will find it today. Thanks for the reply!

Could it be the sway bar bushings?

Sway bar bushings! $10 a pair four bolts!! Easy peasy. They never look worn until you take them out. Then you can tell how bad they are. 30 minute job. I had my neighbor fix mine. Shop will be faster.

My brand new 2017 has this noise, service manager replaced pretty much the whole front suspension. He has narrowed it down to the steering rack. Chrysler rep admitted they have an issue at several dealers, but no fix at this time.

Hi disapointedowner,

I'm sorry to hear about the repairs your 300 has needed. If you'd like to send us a private message with your VIN, I'd be happy to open a case for you and have a specialist reach out about what repairs still need to be completed with the steering rack.

My 2006 was making a loud clunk on passenger side and it was the ball joint on the end of the tension strut. Replaced the tension strut and loud clunk is gone. This is the 2nd time I have had to replace it in 203,000 miles.

The old one had 1/4" of play in the ball and cup. New Moog strut was about $90.

Easy repair, hardest part is getting the ball joint out.

BobM---The struts are new OEM and I still have the loud clunk on passenger side mainly when hitting a pothole and more pronounced when turning left and hitting pothole at same time. Is the tension strut ball joint you speak of part of the NEW STRUT or a separate item that may not have been replaced when all new struts were installed? Thx in advance!
