2014 Chrysler 300C (5.7L V8 Hemi) Whistling Sound @ 92000 kms
Hello All,
I am new to the forum and I have looked for a similar thread, but couldn't find one related to my problem. I will take my car to the dealership but I wanted to consult you guys to make sure I approach the dealership with the most information possible. I have added a link to a video I took: I have maintained the car very well ever since I got it in 2015. I live in Toronto, ON and before I took this video it was approximately 5 degrees Celsius, I was driving around, so the engine was definitely not cold. I was updating my GPS and my Radio so I figured I'd open the hood and try to look for any issues I may be missing. So I heard this noise and I took a video. Would anyone be able to recognize what it would be? Thanks, |
My computer sound is no so good but are you sure the "whistling" sound you hear is not mechanical? From my computer it sounds like a bearing, possibly serpentine idler pulley. If it really is a whistle I'd look for a vacuum leak.
Do you have any feeling on where the sound is loudest, say front or back of the engine ? |
It could very well be mechanical. I hear it most when it is on the left (passenger side). My dad mentioned belt too or pulley and he said it sounded more like metal on metal, rather than a leak.
|
Do keep us informed on what your dealer finds. My hunch is your Dad is on to something.

i took it to the dealership and they mentioned that I needed an alternator replacement. the alternator was making noise and while it is not dead, it will seize eventually. it is expensive to repair, approximately $1300 CDN. I put it off until next month as I had to replace all my rotors and breaks for a total cost of $1400 all in.
|
2 things come to mind. Is your car subject to the alternator recall program? Do ask. Lastly, you can get an alternator replacement by a 3rd party for a lot less than 1300.
|
Don't drive it like that. It will fail, and strand you when the accessory belt snaps.
Here is a video that shows how to change an alternator. |
