300C Brakes
 

Has anybody else had any problems with brake noise, specifically a low howl from the front brakes? I picked up my 300C on Tuesday with only 8 miles on the odometer and I immediately noticed a howl, (not real loud but noticable) coming from the drivers front brake. The dealer just said that the brakes needed to be "set-in". Well it has been about 300 miles now and if anything the howl is getting worse. Any ideas?

when does this noise happen at certain speeds when braking or accel waht speends if any warm weather or colder temps
i know it seems silly to ask but i have alot of info to sift through to get to the right problem and answer.

i will see what i can do when i get more info

The weather is on the warmer side, around 80 to high 90's. It occurs when the brakes are cold, warm or hot, it makes no difference. If you barely apply the brakes it is hardly noticable however when you apply the brakes normally or heavy the vibration, (hum) is very evident. My gut tells me it is coming from the drivers side front and you can feel it resinating through the pedal but not at all through the steering wheel. You can also modulate the pressure while applying the brakes and make the vibration (hum) more prominent. A quick visual check of the disks doesn't reveal anything abnormal. They look smooth and true. I think I will have the dealer take a look at it just to be sure.

Any ideas before I go in so I can suggest something?

By the way, although I am not a certified mechanic, I am somewhat of a gearhead and have rebuilt just about everything. So I can understand the systems involved and conceptualize what might be going on.

rotors need to be glazed .. this will happen when they are broken in..(no cross hatch pattern on the rotor..if thats not the problem, then the pads are not sitting properlyin the caliper.. get some silicone grease and apply it on the back of the pad.. it will reduce the noise
