is 300c a good car to buy?

300c looks very good. Seem a good car, but it is not cheap.
I want to know,
is it a good car?
Any problem?
I am driving a Mercedes C-class. I want to change to 300c. In Australia, there are 3.5 V6, or 5.7 V8, which one is better?

Thanks everyone....
Kevin

The 5.7L V8 Hemi is a very reliable engine and its resale value is high. The 300's transmission though is known to have problems, and quite a few members have noted here of their trany problems. Besides that, the 300 is an excellent car of luxury, value and performance.

The dealer said the transmission is from Mercedes, is it true?
And other problem beside transmission?

We love our 300's but i'm afraid to have to say that you better wait for the 2007's to come out. By that time i would think that they will have all the bugs out. What bugs you say?? Read all the posts. Lots of annoying problems!!!. Seems the 2006's have more problems than the early 2005's. Probably the rush to answer all the orders.

I beieive so that the tranny is by Benz. There shouldn't be any other problems, but as he's said, you might want to wait until 07

RE: is 300c a good car to buy?

I'd be skeptical of any dealer or salesman statement that "this is the same item as Mercedes uses" or some such. I've been told the 3.5 is a MB motor, the Pacifica (I'm shopping Pacs now) tranny is from MB, I forget which model but "it's got the MB heavy duty frame" (regarding a unibody).
In my experience salesmen and other dealer types more often than not either don't know what they're talking about or make up stuff to fill in the gaps. Just a day ago I had a salesman who'd "been selling Chryslers for years" tell me the Pacifica has had the 2.7 or 3.5 motors available. That's absurd, never was never will be a 2.7 in a 4500 lb. car. At least in the USA where I live. It can barely tote a 3400 lb. Concorde.
He apparently got the Pacifica mixed up with the 300 and possibly the earlier Concorde. But he was so sure of himself he readily accepted my $10 bet.
Easy money with these guys.

All posts are very good! Yes there is mercedes TECHNOLOGY in the tranny. According to allpar.com "Some vehicles (including Grand Cherokee Hemi and 300C/Charger/Magnum with five-speed) use a Mercedes five-speed automatic, the W5A580. A Mercedes tech told us that the last three numbers are the amount of torque it can handle (in Nm), giving it a capacity of 427 lb-ft of torque." You might want to check www.allpar.com and see what you can find thru your reading. My chrysler rep told me that www.allpar.com is more reliable than what he learns from his boss..lol Also, wait for the 07 model since technology will be GREATLY improved such as navigation. I know for myself that I have some 07's on the lot but haven't concerned myself with yet since I am focusing on getting rid of 06's.
