Best way to clean engine area?

I want to keep my engine clean, and everything around it, what is the best way to do so?

engine degreaser and a power washer but do not clean it when the car is hot it will suck the water into places that cost money.

they clean them all the time here that way also a touch of brake cleaner always gets the relly bad stuff

Thanks ACE, when you say power washer do you mean high pressure car washer?

they call it the power washer but its a high pressure hot water washer you could say propane and high pressure
