Chrysler 300 upgrade

We recently got a 2007 Chrysler 300...we like it very well...although we are considering upgrading to a better version of the car. Ours has the 3.5 six....what are the pros and cons of the newer engine...the 3.6 flex fuel ? What are the various options in the way of a stereo system ? Is it worth it to get one with navigation ? Are there any other recommendations any of you have about newer 300's ? Thanks, Bruce

Can't speak to the rest of your questions but for my money, I'd go with a portable GPS rather than the built-in version. The portable ones are hundreds of dollars cheaper and much easier to bring up to date. You can hide them so as not to tempt thieves and take them from car to car.

Makes sense...thank you.

brrrdman,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your recent 300 purchase.
There are a ton of different options with each trim level so it's difficult to specify which ones to look for versus others.
Having said that, the 3.6L Pentastar V6 is a great engine! Very reliable and tons of pep.
As far as the stereo and navigation, it will come down to how much you'll want to spend.
All the best on your search!

There is really little comparison between the old 3.5 and the new 3.6 The 3.6 is a much better engine all around. If you drive a Gen 1 with the 3.5 back-to-back with a Gen 2 with the 3.6 you'll be able to immediately tell the difference. If you can mate the 3.6 to the 8 speed auto, it makes the car seem much faster. It won't hurt to find a dealer with a 2012 3.6 and give it a test drive.

I have the V6 in my 2012 300 Limited and love it. Moves this big sedan effortlessly and gets great MPG to boot!

I agree that the current V6 is a wonderful engine. My 2014 300S easily gets 29-30 mpg HWY at 75 mph on 87 octane. With over 300hp and awd, in a heavy, quiet, luxury car with a large frontal area, this is an amazing statistic. When I compare the all around performance to my previous G37 and CTS 3.6DI, this accomplishment is stunning. The award winning nissan VQ and hi tech Caddy DI engine got horrible gas mileage in far smaller, lighter cars. The free flowing exhaust in the S sounds tough but smooth under throttle as well.
Now chrysler just needs "another" trans reprogram to speed up downshifts in the 8 speed. It seems to take literally more than 1 second to downshift under heavier throttle, and this is noted in many reviews.
I suggest waiting for the typical $5000 incentives on 2015s to get that great new interior and grille treatment.
I must be getting old, because I appreciate the amazing value this car offers.
