Drivetrain questions...
 

Hi everyone, my 2007 Crown Victoria (ex police car) is starting to get some rust issues. It is just a winter car and I was looking at replacing it with a 2011 Chrysler 300 or newer.


The reason I like the police cars is a big heavy rear wheel drive car in the winter is as good as it gets for me. My question is do these cars have limited slip rear gears in them? And I suppose the other side of that is can you switch traction control off, otherwise the first part of that question doesn't really matter, lol.


Second, being a winter car I will probably be looking for a V6 (first time in my life I think I have ever said that...). Do all models that offer a V6 have the same rear gear setup? I know there is the limited, S, C and I think SRT right? Perhaps if only the V8's have the rear gear that I am after it will have to be a V8 after all.


Basically I am looking for a stripped down cheap version of these very good looking cars that has the limited slip rear end and the ability to switch off traction control. Will any V6 model I find have this ability, if any at all?

I have a 2012 300 base with the 3.6 v6, 2wd. I have 208,000 miles on it. Can't specifically answer the LS gearing question but I can tell you that you can switch off the traction control if you want to hoon it a bit. This car is surprisingly 'peppy' with the v6, and gets terrific mpg too. It has been an outstanding highway car, dependable, good handling dynamics, great ride and a huge amount of room. The are fast as hell with the hemi, have driven them too. You are making a very good choice...Good luck!

Thanks, that is good to know that traction control can be switched off at least. I guess maybe my best bet will be to just wait for winter and go test drive one and see if it handles the way I like.

Why not go for the all wheel drive ,AWD ?

I like the rear wheel drive cars and the way they feel. I find it very easy and predictable to do controlled slides. I do not at all like front wheel drive, and while AWD is better, I still prefer just a simple rear wheel drive car. Don't get me wrong, I am not drifting all over the city constantly freaking people out around me, it is just nice to do when conditions and situations permit. Winter sucks and this is one of the few things I like about it, lol.
