I own a 300C, I have lately noticed some engine abnormal sound while drive and while still. The dealer says it's normal with all 300C engines. Any ideas on whether it's a major problem????

 

If the abnormal sound is a constant ticking noise, then that is normal. All or most Hemi engines have a slight ticking noise. Kinda their trademark

Just joined today and thought I'd share my engine noise experience with you. We ordered a 300c last october and waited 4 mos for delivery. When it arrived and subsequently 750 miles later I took it to the dealer complaining about ticking or lifter type noise...the engine also shook at stop signs. I was told "they all do that " I got rid of the car and a month later got another 2005 at a different dealer...it did not make ticking noise or shake at stop signs.....but my wife spotted a 2006 on the lot that had same interior as original one we ordered....so we traded up to it....ALAS !!!! it has ticking noise and shakes at traffic lights!!!!
Now with 200 miles on this engine the new dealer tells me it's the hydraulic timing belt tensioner and they can't do anything about it.......we paid 41,000 for the 06....seems like for that amount of money they could build a quiet engine. I.m keeping records just in case, and plan on changing to synthetic oil at 3000 miles. I love the style, the performance, and the handling...just bothers me when rear passengers ask why the car is shaking...

 

i will check with my guys at work and see if the know anything about this its the first i have heard of this problem though. i will post back when i get an answer

 

timing belt tensioner? there's no timing belt so I hope not..... it's a chain. The noise i've heard on my 300c is just normal injector 'ticking' that you hear on any engine...i dont have any unusual noises or shaking. My brother has the hemi in his Ram 1500 ( no MDS however) and it doesn't sound any different at idle. Fantastic engine in my experience.

 

I have around 14,000 miles on mine now The only sound change i hear is while on the high way at a steady 65 or 70 and its a "Tone" change i would guess from the motor in 4cylinder mode. Its very difficult to tell but thats my take .ITs a lower sound .Hope this helps. Also at idle some air pump noise is noticed.

 

I have taken my 2005 300C with 39,000 miles back to the dealer at least 4 times about this ticking noise. The dealer tells me the tick is normal. However if that tick would have been there when I test drove it, or had it for the first few months or so I would take it as normal, but it was not. I have requested that the regional representative from Chrysler come out and listen to it, and we now have a confirmed date. If he tells me there is no need for concern, I will put it out of my mind, but keep my records. However the rough idle, hot or cold could be something else all together, right?

 

I have a 05 300 C also and I was told that it is the injectors that make a little noise. Read my last problem with my transmission. look under the title Transmission.

 

Well, I have an '05 C as well as a '04 2500 truck and a '69 hemi. they all make some level of clatter, especially the '69 w/ solid lifters. The ticking I do believe is injector related and appears consistent from the 300 to the truck. However, I do have the rough idling issue w/ the 300 and a bit of hesitation which the Tech guy hear has suggested a re-flash...just have not done.

I can honestly say I understand the question of why a brand new motor "ticks" but I just have always found it part of the hemi experience...and overall that's a good one!

 

I dont even have 13 K and when I bring in for service oil change I will tell them about it. If they tell me its normal then I have to accept it.
