Replacing EGR 2006 3.5L without removing upper intake

2006 3.5L RWD. Getting code P0404, appears the solution to the problem is to replace EGR assembly.

I have the service manual, which says to remove the upper intake manifold, which I would rather NOT do! Car has 40K, don't really want to disturb it if possible.

If i want to change the EGR valve without removing the upper intake, how difficult is the job, and how about how long will it take? I have decent tools and mechanical aptitude.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Why Not remove the intake? it is only held on by few bolts on top, 2 nuts on the passenger side, with few vacuum hoses in the back.
tho you might have to bend the Trans dip stick tube or unbolt the bar for the wiper cowl for more wiggle rooms to get the intake out.
it really shouldn't take more than half hour to remove it even for first time DIYer.

yes, you can do it without it off, but you will need to go in from the bottom of the car with LONGGGGGGGGGG extension and swivel socket.
