sudden rattling

Hello all. We bought a 2002 chrysler 300m with a 3.5 engine 8th digit code is G in VIN. This is my sons first car, it has low mileage 119,000 was running perfect no noises what so ever. Went out one morning started the car and rattling in the top of the engine passenger side. Car has lost power just about stalls when you stop at a light or sign. We removed the plenum, valve cover and rocker arm assembly and I dont see anything broken but I am not sure what I am looking for. Oh yeah the local garage run a few test, compression on all 3 cylinders and said the front cylinder passenger side acts like the valves were not operating properly. They would not do the job so this is why my son and I are trying to fix it. No this was not a chrysler garage just a small garage. PLEASE HELP.

Was the timing belt ever changed? 7 yr/100k service. May have jumped time.
We have also seen some rod bearing failures on 3.5 engines Search here :www.300mclub.org...

Timing belt and water pump were both changed due to water pump started leaking a little.

Thank you
