2007 Aspen 4.7L Engine Plug Swap
 

Hey all, just wanted to give an update on the procedures for changing spark plugs on the 2007 Aspen with the 4.7L V8. After much research, I jumped in, scared I'd be hitting hurdles and frustrations.

I was surprised at how easy it was!
Tips:

I managed to use just a spark plug socket, a long extension, a short extension, needle-nose pliers, and small socket for the spark plug boot assembly. A step stool also helped to get at the back 2 plugs.

Spark plugs are really deep down, and all but 2 held in the socket. What I did was, after the plug was loose, use some duct tape rolled so the sticky side was exposed, and inserted it into the socket. Then put the socket back on the plug, and it came right out.

NOTE: For engine combustion chamber protection, I first used my shop vac as a blower, to blow out all the debris from the deep cavity the plug sits in. I did this after removing the plug boot. I was surprised how much junk blew out.

Plugs are on TOP of the engine, not down on the sides like the old V8s.
Gap is .40

Passenger Side
-- remove the plastic air intake box
-- unscrew the oil dipstick brace and move out of way a couple inches

Driver Side
-- NOTHING NEEDED TO BE MOVED OUT OF THE WAY!!

Taking my time, it took me less than 2 hours to do all 8 plugs.
