Air conditioner compressor cycles without snow flake lit

Air conditioner works fine with the switch on. Snow flake lit.

Air conditioner compressor has been cycling on for about seven seconds and then off for about seven seconds without the snow flake lit. This goes on for at least 20 minutes at idle. Engine can be warm or cold when started. I can hear compressor cycling when speed up to about 25 or 30 mph then road noise is to high.

Does anyone know how to stop this cycling without pulling the electrical plug on the magnetic clutch?

Used to have an 1970 Dodge Monoco with auto temp control. It would cycle the compressor for about one minute when the engine was started cold. But not from warm engine. Was advised that was done to keep oil circulating to avoid seals leak.

Thanks for any help or ideas.

It will IF you are in automatic control mode OR you have it on a windshield defrost mode(there are 2 of these).

Automatic control mode??? What is that?

The Dodge I used to have did have an automatic temperature control system.

There are 2 major types of HVAC systems , Manual controls and Auto Temp control.
Manual control will work the A/C system when set to windshield defrost or Windshield/floor position. ATC will use the A/C to maintain a usually set (digital readout) temp at all times, even if the "snowflake" button is not pressed. Do you have the owners book for this ride? It will show the difference and you can then see which system is equipped in yours(typically High end trim uses ATC system).

Have manual. Went back and looked at. Have manual system. I thought was loaded. Appears mine has most of high end trim but not all. Thanks to this site, found out how to operate fog lights as manual had wrong info.

On page 248 of manual, under "Window fogging", indicates A/C system on, shows snow flake lit, to defog windshield.

However, after reading your response, went back and reread manual, including additional pages. On page 242, under "defrost", the note shows you are correct.

Thanks REBEL59.
