Alternator Recommendation

Hey Group,

I was on my way to a friends house and there was a bit of whining under the hood and the battery light came on. I popped the hood and the alternator is smoking hot. Guessing it's gone so I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations about which replacement to get.

Any brands to stay away from?

Thanks!

Brad

also, should i upgrade to the higher volt alternator or is the 160 fine?

So I grabbed a NAPA reman with a lifetime warranty. We'll see how it goes.

Good to know because I'm in the same boat. Has the alternator held up?

I had whirling noise then an intermittent battery light. Last night the battery light came on and stayed on. When I got home I could smell an electrical smell from the front of the Aspen. Our Aspen only has 78k miles and has had a surprising number of problems.

Alternator

I had my wiring melt on my alternator from it outputting 18v on an hour trip. Battery light came on and when I pulled over and popped the hood I could smell burnt plastic and immediately saw the exposed wires had melted to the alternator
