Extra Modifications for trailer towing

Hello, I have a 2008 Aspen with a Hemi and the heavy duty towing package. We are purchasing a lite weight holiday trailer. It is 24 ft and will be about 5,500 to 6,000 lbs all loaded. I find the suspension in the Aspen a bit soft. Has anyone considered adding air bags or gas shocks to the rear suspension to firm things up for towing?

Thanks, B

Make sure you using an equalizer hitch, and you won't have that much sag, and softness

I replaced the stock shocks over a year ago to firm up the ride and stop the rear from skating over bumps . My first choice was Blistein which I have used before , if you are worried about nose dive , rear end squat or less body roll Blistein's are a very good choice around $100 each . The Monroe Reflex is the one I picked which is the same as the Rancho RSX but with different packaging , by the way Monroe makes the RSX . I don't tow that much so general ride comfort is what I was aiming for .

HI Thanks for the tip. I've found the skating a bit annoying as well. Did you replace anything on the front end?

Cheers, B

I tow the same weight trailer as you. I am going to get firestone airbags installed in the rear. I hope that will help with the saging since I already have an equalizer weight distribution hitch. I was also told that the bags will help with the rocking motion when towing over uneven pavement, we'll see.

Good tip. So, did the Reflex shocks eliminate the "rear skating"? Mine does this also.
