Fuel Tank

Can someone tell me how much fuel they're able to put in their Aspen when it's flat on empty? I'm not in front of the manual at the moment, but I swear the tank is bigger than 22 gallons. I've never been able to get over 22 gallons at the pump, which leads me to believe that the low fuel indicator is coming on too early.

Anyone?

According to the manual it's 27 gallons, the best I ever did was 24

That is typical. The gauge will actually read on full "E" when a couple of gallons are left. This is done intentially because the manufactures know that many people will run to "E" before getting gas.
FYI: It is not recommended to run that low on a continuous basis because the fuel pump is cooled by the gas. Running it out or very, very low on gas will decrease the life of the pump.

Right, but is it normal to still have 5 gallons available when showing low fuel? Considering mileage isn't that great, it would sure be nice to be able to get another 50 miles out of the tank.

RE: Fuel Tank

I agree with you and you probably can get the extra 50 miles out of a tank, if it was known for sure that the low fuel indicator was chiming early. Unfortunately, there is probably only one easy way to tell and make sure you ahvea gas can with you of you do (LOL). I do not know the specs for the Aspen yet, but for first gen Dodges the low fuel indicator is spec'd to turn on at 12.5% of tank capacity, or 1/8 of a tank. Assuming that the Aspen spec is the same (don't know for sure), then that means it should turn on with 3.38 gallons remaining (27 x 12.5%). A little less than your 5.
