Grinding noise from steering wheel during U turns...

three point turns, etc... Basically anytime I trun the wheel fast in either direction. Doesn't do it driving or turning corners.

Any idea what this is or if it can be fixed?

Did you check the power steering fluid level yet?

I dropped the Aspen off to get this looked at and the Service Center, where I bought it, said it was the "clock spring wire" that was making the noise and that they would fix it for free. Not sure what it is or does, but if anyone else runs accross this, at least now they'll know what it is.

Fix for free? I presume this is under warranty, because this would entail removing the steering wheel which is not a 15 minute job.

Yes, I just bought it about a month ago from Car Sense. They give you a 6 mo/6000 mi warranty on their cars. They also have what they call a "We Owe" list that you put together as you look over the car. I put the steering wheel noise on there, factory floor mats, owners manual, spare tire (which was missing), etc... on the list. They had to order the spare tire, so I'm having them do the rest of the We Owe list while they have it.

Excellent.

I have that sound coming from my steering wheel as well, and only when turning the wheel quickly.

That's how mine was. Probably the same thing.

The clockspring allows you have power accessories in your steering wheel. If it breaks, you simply lose power to cruise control, the horn, etc.

You have to pull the steering wheel to get to it. Take it to a professional if you're not knowledgeable in working with airbags, etc.

It's getting checked on Friday, I will update when I get it back.
