Just did my first oil change...
 

Well, I've had my truck since mid January and I've driven just under 5,500 miles, so it was time for my first oil change. (Oil change warning even came on :D)

Well, I have a couple of questions/concerns. Approximately 3.75 qts of oil came out of my Hemi. Also, there was some grey debris. Not shavings, but like grey/silver frosted flake crumbs that are very easy to crumble. Any idea what this could be? Also could it be that the dealer did not change the oil when I picked it up, even though they told me they did? Hence the 3.75qts of oil left...hurts to imagine the truck went 10-12k on one oil change.

No idea what the crumbs are unless the oil filter is falling apart. Did you see if a magnet will attract them?

Did you count the oil from the filter in your 3.75 qts?

If you raised the front of the car on ramps or jacks it could affect how much oil drained out, similarly, if the engine was cold, less oil might come out.

As to whether the dealer really changed the oil, who knows?

- Magnet doesn't attracted, and they are VERY brittle.
- In my 3.75qt claim, I actually had 3 quarts and 1/3 quart in oil, plus the oil filter, so I guesstimated 3.75 total.
- The front wheels were on ramps, which in return would make ALL of the oil come out easier/quicker.
- Stupid me, they told me they changed the oil, but the oil light was still on. I figured they rushed and/or forgot to reset it.

Hate to say it, but those do look like shavings. The fact that a magnet doesn't attract could mean they are aluminum. I would keep a close eye on your oil levels for a bit. Check every few days and monitor how much oil you have to add. I'd also record your mileage each time to see how much you have to add per miles. Although I haven't seen any shavings, I am loosing a quart about every 800-1000 miles. I suspect worn rings but haven't been able to verify with a compression check yet. You could be in the same boat.
