New CEL - Looking for advice P3449

Hey guys,

5.7L Hemi 2007

Looks like another code popped up, I was hoping I was done with fixing codes. I've done a few searches, but havent come up with anything concrete. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I believe MDS Cyl 7 Solenoid needs to be replaced but have no idea where it is or how it looks.

Where can I buy this part, not showing any DIY's either.

Hope someone can help! pictures, P/N, anything

Calling Coyote - I believe you had this problem, but with Cyl 6.

Can you confirm this is the part to change.

15951 - Any advice on the procedure?

TY

Which one controls Cyl 7? Top right?

Third post, relevant.

Any idea which unit to check for #7?

Yes. Mine was p3441 which was cyl #6. Although I took it in to have them replace the MDS solenoid, they messed up and only replaced ignition coil for cyl #6. I also had them replace all the plugs at the same time. Thing is that the code has yet to return since. Looks like the coil took care of it. Part is about the same price (MDS solenoid vs. Ignition Coil), but the coil is a LOT easier to replace. Solenoid requires removal of the intake manifold. Cyl #7 (which is code p3449) is the far back one on drivers side. Coil part number is 56029129AF. That number you have for the Solenoid is the number I found for it when researching it.

Here is where I am. Here is the one I changed (what a pain in the ass)
http://s15.postimg.org/4ehu7yit7/201...51_resized.jpg

and another shot of the action.

Should I go to the dealer and pick up the coil as well for No 7 and plug?

ChryslerTec, any more advise on what I should do? Would hate to put it back together and still have issues.

So here is what I did, I went to the dealer and picked up the coil pack as well as two spark plugs.

1 Changed far right solenoid (Drivers rear)
2 Changed #7 Spark plugs (Two)
3 Changed #7 Coil Pack

Turned on the truck and tried to clear the code. It is not disappearing.

Is anyone 100% sure or can anyone confirm I changed the right solenoid?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.:(

Well, guess I spoke too soon. Went to the store this afternoon (a bit cooler than it has been) and I got the dreaded check engine light again. Checked the code and the P3441 has returned. Seems like the cooler weather affects it more quickly. So I guess it's back to replacing the solenoid.

The drivers rear cylinder is #7. So you are working on the correct one. If by replacing the solenoid, coil and plugs has not resolved that, than I'm gonna say you have a bad wire issue somewhere. That's not going to be fun to find. The fact that you can't even clear the code concerns me. I can at least clear it and it randomly comes back later. Hate to say it, but you may need to have a dealer diagnose it. :(

I'm going to take it all apart again, and change the wiring harness. If that doesn't resolve the issue, I will probably have to take it to the dealer for the PCM. Not looking forward to that.

Please let me know if you are successful with P3441. Maybe we can share thoughts

calamity coyote 10-27-2015 04:55 PM

Yeah. I hope it's not the PCM for either of us. That would be costly. I'll probably be taking mine back to the dealer to have them replace the solenoid if the code comes back again. Sure it will, but I've got too much going on right now to be down without the truck again so it will probably be a bit.

Hey coyote, are you able to reset you code with a scanner?

I clear the code on the scanner, but the CEL doesnt turn off, not even for a second. Im wondering if my POS scanner doesnt have the capability to communicate to turn this light off?

Product Detail

Maybe the dealer has to use their computer to reset the code? (seeing how I fixed everything already lol)

calamity coyote 10-31-2015 12:03 PM

Yes. My newer scanner will clear it. My original scanner, an Actron CP9135 wouldn't even communicate with the Aspen so I had to get a new one. An Actron CP9580A. It will read and clear all codes. It's a little expensive. I paid $150 from eBay last December but I see them as low as $125 now.

CC... just curious, does the motor perform differently with that code, other than affecting the MDS?

P3449

Elusive did you ever find the solution to that code. I'm having the same problem

elusive416 02-23-2020 05:59 PM

New ECM solved this issue, truck was also showing a BUS code in the dash at that time.

Elusive,
I have been getting this code for over a year. One of the first things I noticed failing on my Aspen was that it would not remain on if I used the key(button) to start my aspen from a far. Soon after the CEL came on. I finally took it to the auto shop (not dealer) this month and received a diagnosis to replace all 4 MDS. So i did. But with my own mechanic. The scanner reads the code, erases it, but code is right back on after we start the truck. The truck also does not remain on if i start the truck with the button on my key...i was hoping it did. Ive read about replacing the ignition coil to #7 and by the sound of this thread, ECM may be next. Can anyone relate? Any feedback would be appreciated.

P3449 issue for 2007 Aspen 5.7 (200K MILES)

So it was the PCM on my Aspen. My smog technician said PCM is a common issue in the hemis. Apparantly it wasnt a waste of money in changing the solenoids. The solenoids go out, sending a 12v charge to the pcm which gives off this error code, frying the board. No point in changing the pcm first if you dont take care of the solenoids first...at least thats what the tech said. He had made the mistake of changing the pcm first, which caused him to pay for two pcms. He had previously owned a Aspen and charger in the past. I hope this helps any of you.
