Oil Change Intervals and Synthetic Oil

Hi all,

I use the 6k mile service interval, and have been using Mobil 1 for about 2 years now. Are any of you that are running synthetics going longer than 6k miles? That interval was the same regardless of conventional or synthetic, so every time I go to the shop and spend $90 on a 7-quart Hemi oil change I wonder if I'm pouring perfectly good oil down the drain.

Please let me know if anyone is going longer between oil changes with synthetic. I'm out of warranty, so that's not a concern at this point.

Thanks!

$90 is way too much. DIY. Most all auto parts stores run monthly specials of 5 qts synthetic + quality filter for $27-30. Add another 2 quarts, and you are around $40. Take 45 min of your time, and you are done. Oil changes on the Aspen are simple. If you are out of warranty, you can easily go 10K on most synthetics + quality filter. Check bobistheoilguy for more details.

Thanks for the info. I use a private mechanic, and have called many places. A HEMI oil change w/Mobil 1 in this area is $90, pretty much without exception. I would DIY, but I have no interest in collecting and properly disposing of oil, or working on this truck in my driveway. I gladly replace air filters and the sort, but that's about it.

In that case, if you only go 6 months, any brand name 5w20 dino + filter other than Fram will be fine. Use dino, and change by the OLM.

I don't go 6 months, I go 6k miles. The point of this thread was to ask if anyone is doing extended service intervals beyond 6k miles with synthetic oil.

I am running between 9,000 and 12,000 miles per oil change. Basically I am using the oil life computer on my Corvette for the Aspen too. Just turned 50,000 miles and no issues of any kind.

Are you using that same interval for your oil filter as well? Thanks for the response.

long oil change intervals

We changed the oil every 15K on my wifes bimmer with castrol full synthetic. It had 90K when we traded it on the Aspen and there where no engine issues. I change the oil every 7K on my Ford edge with synthetic blend, 70K & no engine issues. I am using Mobile1 in the Aspen on 7K intervals. 47K all is good. DIY synthetic oil change is less than jiffy lubes standard oil change on your Aspen. You don't evn need a jack to change the oil. My town will pick up 1 gallon of used oil on trash day.

How do you know "all is good"? Are you sending the oil off to have it analyzed, or is this just based on your gut?
