P0562
 

Had an issue tonight with my 08 Aspen Limited 5.7L. Aspen sat all weekend in the garage unlocked so alarm was not armed. After making 4 very short trips of less than 5 minutes today and then sitting for several hours in between I went to start the Aspen this evening and it started but tripped the MIL engine light and the above code (did the on/off/on/off/on cycle with the key) in the odometer. Checked all fuses and cables and all seem OK to my novice eye. Upon trying to start a 2nd time the Aspen starter lugged slowly for a second or two (like a dead battery condition) and then started. Fearing it would not restart I then drove around for about 30-45 minutes with no extra accessories on. It now starts fine every time (5-6 restarts since) and now the P0562 code does not display in the odometer (yet the MIL check engine light is still illuminated).

After searching I found ChryslerTech's Sebring post:
Symptom:
P0562-BATTERY VOLTAGE LOW
When Monitored and Set Condition:
P0562-BATTERY VOLTAGE LOW
When Monitored: The engine running. The engine speed greater than 1150 RPM.
Set Condition: The battery sensed voltage is 1 volt below the charging goal for 13.47
seconds. The PCM senses the battery voltage turns off the field driver and senses the
battery voltage again. If the voltages are the same, the code is set. One trip Fault.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
GOOD TRIP EQUAL TO ZERO
B+ CIRCUIT HIGH RESISTANCE
GENERATOR GROUND HIGH RESISTANCE
GENERATOR OPERATION
(Z1) GENERATOR FIELD GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN
(K20) GEN FIELD CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
(K20) GEN FIELD CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN
PCM

I'm not sure what all the above causes mean but could it be just a battery on its way out since the code no longer displays (I think the MIL will reset after a certain number of starts (Yes or No ?) Or could it be due to something getting wet with the torrential rain I had to today (didn't drive thru any puddles though). It's the original MOPAR battery since its 9/2007 on road date.

P0562 update
 

UPDATE: after a few days of no code it happened again (after making a few short trips again). Had a "slow crank" of the starter consistent with a weak battery along with the P0562 code. Replaced with a new battery (Duralast Gold) and all is good to go. No issues since.

Exactly what I would have tried. Next time just go to one of the parts stores and have them test your battery or put the ol' multimeter on her.
