Thinking of getting new 08 Aspen

The wife is thinking of getting a new 08 Aspen. Any comments? Problems? Pros/Cons?

Thanks!

jmbones,

We love ours, it is a 2007 Brilliant Black, fully loaded, 2wd. Great road car, we drove to Rapid City, SD for Thanksgiving, just over 3,300 miles total, very comfortable and easy to drive. We compared this to the GMC, Chevrolet, Acura and Cadillac SUV's, the Aspen was less expensive, better configured and more comfortable (IMHO) than any of them. Plus we got a good deal!

Go for it.

jmbones,

I have a 08 Aspen (also fully loaded) 4wd, 5.7L with the 20 inch chrome wheels. I get about 11-13 mpg around town (very short trips less than 5 miles) and about 18-19 mpg on the highway (70mph speeds for trips greater than 20 miles). Great vehicle. Have about 7k on mine.

I just recently bought ours. I see many vehicles every single day at work, and realized that the Aspen, for the $, is by fara way better vehicle than most out there that it is supposedly being compared to. I would definately be buying the Hemi, much better fuel economy than most as well. Just my 2 cents tho.

My favorite vehicle so far. Comfortable in all seating areas. less expensive than the competition too.

I'm also thinking of getting a 2008 Aspen Signature series. What deals has everyone been getting from their dealership? I see that there is a $3,000 rebate going on. How much more will the dealership take off the MSRP?

Thanks

We bought the 2007 Aspen in August and love the car!!!

In looking at the Signature package there are some options we have that don't appear to be available with the Signature package, Just make sure you get everything you want, the price is outstanding as long as you are satisified.

For those thinking of purchasing one check with your HR dept at your work to see if they are set up on XPlan or similar discount program with dealers. We got my Aspen on Xplan which is 1% above invoice, no negotiating. Our 07 was stickered at $41k & we got it for $36K includies tire/wheel upgrade 20" & $1k rebate.

I do get employee pricing, which is why I'm trying to convince the wife to go with the Aspen. I also get pricing on any GM product, any Chrysler and any Nissan. She's also interested in the Nissan Murano and Ford Edge but I don't get a Ford discount.

We test drove a Limited w/28J pkg. It's different. Never owned a 4x4, but we want to pull a larger trailer. Currently we have a 2005 T&C fully loaded with the tow prep. Took the family to Mt Rushmore. We love the T&C but wanted to pull a larger trailer. My question to the forum would be : Does the signature series drive differently with the 18" rims as compared to the 28J pkg with the 20" Also, does the 5.7L handle 87 octane or will it knock like the dickens?

Our 5.7 with the 20" rims runs fine on 87 octane. We made a Thanksgiving trip from Scottsdale to Rapid City, Mt. Rushmore, etc., with no issues at all. I have not ever heard the engine ping with the 87 octane. Great road trip.

I have the 20" wheels and the HEMI and love the ride. I only use 87 octane and never had a ping or knock. Go for it....!!!!!

Looks like the plans for an Aspen for the wife (or any other new vehicle for that matter) have been put on hold indefinitely. Just got some numbers on how much we need to save for a down payment on a new house and the wife isn't interested in a new ride now. It's funny, my Power Wagon and Avenger payments ARE a mortgage payment.:D
