04 Pacifica Engine Codes
We have an 04 Pacifica with approx 89k. A couple of times this summer the check engine light came on, but the next time the car was started, no light...well, the past several weeks, it's stayed on. I ran the codes yesterday and it's showing P0440 and P0441. Can anyone suggest things I should check. I'd like to try to make repair myself w/o having the cost associated w/taking it to the dealer. Any help would be great. THANKS ! ! !

RE: 04 Pacifica Engine Codes
Well, from what I was able to find on the web is the P0440 has to do with the Evaporative Emission System and the P0441 is Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow. "Look for cracked hoses on the evaporative purge sol area" as per Chrysler Tech.

"Look for cracked hoses on the evaporative purge sol area" Where is this at???

RE: 04 Pacifica Engine Codes
Maybe this will help locate the hose:
"It is part of the evaporative emission system of your car. The fuel system of your vehicle contains hydrocarbon fuel vapors that are stored in a canister until they can be introduced into the engine so as not to be released to the atmosphere and the purge valve is what is used to accomplish this or 'purge' the vapor canister and if it is malfunctioning it will usually turn on the 'check engine' light to alert you of a problem." I would say do some research on the web to find where the canister is located if you can't find it visually and trace/check the hoses that are attached. It sounds like the hose(s) are on the bottom of the car which is probably how the hose became worn. Good luck! |
RE: 04 Pacifica Engine Codes
Is there any chance this would be covered by the warranty? I have the 100k extended service plan, but there's a $100 deductible. The last 8 of my VIN are 4R291761. THANKS

RE: 04 Pacifica Engine Codes
I'm not sure what kind of warranty you have and quite frankly if it's just a hose and you have some kind of mechanical know how it might be worth looking into whether you can do this yourself. With a $100 deductible it might worth giving it a shot. Another option is if you have a mechanic that you trust, have him take a look and explain the codes to him and see if he can find the cracked hose and replace it or at least if he finds the broken hose maybe you can replace it. Just be sure to use the same type of hose; size and inside thickness.

Just bought an 04 Pacifica. Love the car but the check engine light came on just 100 miles off the lot. Code P0441. I think I understand what might be going on with the purge flow system and associated hoses. I found the line that leads from the cannister/pump but it is capped off at the firewall. Is this how it's supposed to be? I expected it to lead to the intake manifold!

federal law mandates a warranty of 80,000 miles or 8 years, whichever comes first for emissions equipment, if you are still under that, the dealer has to work on it per federal regulations, and cover it under warranty

not correct the engine computer aka PCM and the cat converters are the only thing that is covered under the 8 80 rubber hoses and gas caps and what ever else is not.
