it comes on at start up then goes away when?

gbeach 02-25-2011 09:46 AM

going off of what my wife said. she says it comes on when she first puts the key in and turns it on, then it goes off.

CHRYSLER TECH 02-25-2011 05:22 PM

are u not aware that nearly all cars and trucks do this?
its called a bulb check

gbeach 02-26-2011 07:43 AM

this has never come on before, and yes I have enough sense to know whether it is a bulb
test or not. and it comes on after going through all of the checks.

Hi
I'm sure you probably looked at the owner's manual, but it says if the light remains on after several normal drive cycles you should have it checked. If you would like to get it read, do so and post back with the code. If the light is not flashing while driving (mis-fire) and you are noticing no drive-ability issues, it is likely an emission component issue.

it does not stay on or flash. you turn the key to the on position or start, and it goes through all the checks, then about 3 seconds later the perform service light comes on with one chime and goes away. I tried to reset it by turning the key to the on position and pressing the accelerator 3 times but it still does it. I don't have a service manual on the 08
so I am not sure if I am resetting it correctly or not. I figured it was just a change oil dummy light. I may try disconnecting the battery to see if that resets it.

Exactly....

I know I do it wrong, but bear with me ..it works....

MENU... tap repeatedly until "Service interval' is displayed....Tap "STEP" repeatedly until you have cycled thru all available mileage options and returned to starting point. (I use 3000 )

Tap menu again, and RESET SVC INTERVAL " will be displayed, Tap step to select yes.

TAp menu until personal settings is displayed...Cycle the ignition key...And start the car.

Thanks djinn, I finally figured out how to do that. You are right, those are the exact steps. not coming on anymore. I wonder why the turn key on and press the gas three times didn't work. I was told it would.

key on and tap 3 times is GM. all the manufacturers do it differently.
