2004 Pacifica sounds like an turbo prop plane
Hello, I am the new owner of a 2004 pacifica. I've had it for less than two months and have had it in the shop 3 times so far. First was for the knocking noisees when i turned or started and stopped. That turned out to be the "power transfer unit" which was covered under the 7yr/70k power train warranty. I had hopes that the airplane propeller sound would go away with the ptu but alas, it has not.
It starts to howl/ sounds like a prop plane at about 30 mph and justs gets louder the faster you go. i guess at 70 it levels out or i get used to the noise. There is no vibrations although I do feel a little buzz in the gas pedal. My mechanics thought it was a wheel bearring and replaced it but then put the old one back on because it didn't help. I also had the inner tie rod ends replaced but to no avail. So, anyone else have an airplane prop sound/hum when they drive? I think it could be the tires. That is where I am going to start although it came with pretty good BF's on it. Thanks. I hope you can help. |
update fyi
just in case you have the same noise, it was the left front wheel bearring. 300 bucks to replace and it sounds very nice.

I was going to say check the tires. So why when the mechanic replaced the wheel bearing the first time that it was still making the noise? Did you change mechanics? Glad you got it fixed.

i'm not sure what their deal was. it turned out to be the other wheel bearring. my mechs are pretty good guys. i've been going to them for a decade now and have always felt i was treated right. i don't think they have ever worked on a pacifica.
