2004 using oil

I need some help. My wife's '04 has been using oil. It is not leaking or getting into the coolant. It's burning off somehow. Has anyone had this happen and what was the cause? I've read about piston rings in '05 models and valve seals in the head but I haven't heard of anyone fixing this???

I'd like some ammo before it goes to the dealer.

Thanks,
Jason

How much is it using? A liter/quart every 5000km/3000miles would be considered normal.

As per Chrysler, some consumption is normal so be prepared to hear that. I can't recall what amount is considered normal. My '05 displayed what I thought was oil consumption but realized that when I changed the oil myself I had to check it twice after running the engine and then had to add some.

PacificaBus,
You might be right about having to add oiljust after an oil change. I added 1.5 to 2 quarts within 200 miles of the oil change. But since that we have put about 1500 miles on the car and the level is holding better. I'll keep an eye on it especially after the next oil change.

Thanks!

Moe,

I don't do any work on that car, the dealer changed the oil. I did add a quart after the change but maybe it was low after the change. The oil light hasn't been on since. The dipstick was below the low mark each time the oil light went on.

It's good to hear that don't see many engine problems in the pacifica. It's my wife's car and Ineed it to be reliable.

Thanks,
Jason

The 3.5L is a very good engine. In my 20 years with Chrysler,I have only seen I major failure with a 3.5L. Main bearing failed on a crankshaft. The early ones[93-97] had weak water pumps, but a total engine redesign fixed that concern. My own 05 Pac with 103,000km uses about 1L every 5000km which is normal.
