2005 Pacifica Rear Driveshaft Bearing
 

Hello everyone. First time poster here.

My 80 year old dad has a 2005 3.5L AWD Pacifica. It is a nice vehicle except for the major clunking coming from under the floorboard. The shop told him it's the rear driveshaft intermediate (hanger) bearing. They also said you can't buy just the bearing but you must buy the whole driveshaft and it's over $800. I have looked everywhere and can't find the bearing. I do see a driveshaft bearing for the 300 is available.

What are folks with this vehicle doing when the driveshaft bearing goes bad? Will the 300 bearing work as a substitute?

Hey CSR1967, I don't have a specific answer for you. Hopefully, more members will weigh in on this.

I just wanted to say as a mechanic that I've replaced a lot of those intermediate shafts because of bad hanger bearings. It depends on the manufacturer and the make/model but some allow you to replace just the center bearing (which is nice) and others require that the entire shaft be replaced (which is expensive).

If the intermediate shaft plus center bearing has to be replaced in one unit, make sure an get a decent brand. Some of the cheaper ones (off Amazon, etc.) aren't the quality that you want. They often aren't balanced well and make noise when the car is driven. Buyer beware.
