2006 Pacifica Base - radio/Auto Hvac won't light up
I've got a 2005 Pacifica Base - radio/Auto Hvac won't light up. The radio works, but you can't see the stuff on the panel. The Auto HVAC
won't light up and the Blower won't run. You can hear the compressor clutch kick in, but the panel is dark.
We've been through the manuals and are now down to removing the Dash to expose more connectors and grounds.
How do you do it???? I've looked at the Utube videos and most are not what I'm looking for. The service manual doesn't
really explain it either. Also, the HVAC controller unit has been replaced with a used, known good one. That's as far as a local
repair shop got. I'm thinking of going to the dealer. But, I should be able to handle this myself, if I knew the details. I'm a Broadcast
Engineer. Anybody got any good ideas on removing the Dash? Also, that TIPM fuse box doesn't want to flip up. I removed the battery and
battery box to get a look at the grounds. Everything seem to be fine. Help! (grin) Thanks, Pat (Index Pat Appleson Studios, Inc. Webb Site home page)

I have a similar problem with mine not lighting up. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I had the ground wires on the motor inspected/repaired but that didn’t fix the problem.
To get at the connectors, there are two small panels, one on each side of the controls. They just pop off. One the are removed, the screws that hold the components to the dash are exposed. Take those out and you can get at the connectors etc.
Hope that helps.
P.S. Although my lights don’t work, the blower is fine.

Bill, thanks for getting back to me. I'll give your suggestion a try. I think it's either a ground or a PCM feed. It's really weird.
and you're the only one that even come close to a solution to try. (grin) When I finally find the problem I'll paste it up here.
Cheers,
pat

Update
I took the dash apart as per the instructions I provided, I did not find anything obvious with the connections to the ac etc. I put it back together and it resulted in no change. Things did not work.
At that time I wasn’t confident enough to start playing with adding a ground or power wire to the connectors for the controls. I think I probably would have found that the power connection was at fault.
I moved on to trying to diagnose why the driver side high beam headlight wasn’t working. I took the headlight off so I could get at the connectors for the bulbs.
By piggybacking a wire from the low beam connector (power side) I was able to determine that the high beam connector was not getting any power. But I had no idea how to fix it at the time.
WARNING
Make sure you put a cloth down to set the headlight assembly on when working with the connectors.
I didn’t and ended up with scratches on the headlight lens. I am going to have to sand those out. But that is another story.
i have come to the conclusion that the problems I am having are all power related and have decided to add a new power wire from the battery to the fuse box as described earlier. I will update this thread once I have done this.

Here is the thread for adding the power wire from the battery to the fuse box:

Well, I went out and spent $18.00 on a battery cable and ran it from the battery (positive) to the bottom of the fuse box. I had a bitch of a time getting the fuse box to free up enough to tilt it.
The bad news is that nothing has changed. The dash lights and driver side high beam light still don’t work.
I am very disappointed!
I know the problem with the high beam is NO POWER, as when I jumpered power from the low beam it worked. I was going to try the same thing with the dash lights but if it is the same as the headlight (no power), what do I do to fix it.
Anybody got any ideas?
I was told that there wasn’t a fuse or relay for the headlights.
Thanks
Bill

Before beginning to diagnose these problems myself, I has an auto electric shop check/repair grounds G103 and G104. That is why I was so focused on it being a power issue. Now that I have added a second power connection to the fuse box, I don’t know what to do.
