Chrysler Pacifica "Popping" door sound
 

Hi guys!

I am a proud owner of a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica, and I have a few issues since it's an older vehicle, yet I still love the car and don't wanna get rid of it, running 145,000 miles strong!!

The driver door has had tons of use, being the most used door on the car obviously, and there is two hindges on the door holding it, at the top and bottom. In between the two hindges, there is a black metal piece which holds to the car, and the other side of this piece goes inside the door, and I'm guessing it's some type of switch for the lights, or something.

Anyhow, this black piece makes a "popping" noise anytime I open or close the door, I look at the piece when it makes the "popping" noise, and seems to be from being opened and closed so much, the joint where it pivots has worn metal, and it's free to move.

I've used WD-40 to fix it, and other sprays and nothing has worked. How can I fix this "Popping" Sound?

Nice picture of the door but you barely show the part. I think you are referring to what's called the "door check strap". Its purpose is to prevent the door from opening too far. Replacement will probably require removal of the door trim panel. Here's a link to a discussion:

Either that or like on my Cirrus, the 2 screws that hold it agaisnt the car, the head of 1 "blew off" hence the popping sound. For where it is, I'm not going threw the trouble of drilling it out and so on.

If the strap fails completely and the door blows open in a high wind and opens too far, you will find some nasty sheet metal damage when the door smashes into the back edge of the front fender. Just sayin'.
