code p0457

ok this has been talked about for a bit but i didn't see anything that tells if the code goes away? we just got this car 2005 pacifica touring model and the tank was about empty, she put about 1/2 tank in it and the check gas cap lit up in the odo area, and the check engine symbol lit up. i scanned it with my torque lite scanner and it showed p0457 evap system. i tried to clear it but it did not even try to reset. the lamps or message did not even flicker. so my question is this. if it is just a cap will the messages go off when installing a new cap? and if so about how long does this take? if it is not this issue as some people has talked about the fuel pump and some about a fitting or hose under the battery tray.

if it turns out to be the pump i did see where one person cut the floor out to get at the pump, so where will the pump be under the middle row or between the middle and 3rd row seat on the driver side. anyone know of a video showing this repair? if i got thru this and the pump is ok where else might i look to get this repaired? being i just have one code now p0457 thanks for the help on this bp.

so i had to cut the floor out the floor at the pump on the passenger side of the tank. there is nothing wrong with any hoses or broken fittings. but i can smell gas when i stick my nose down close to the pump. i'm thinking i should not be smelling any gas, so i wonder if that code is from a broken or loose pump reng that holds the pump in place. like maybe the pump was replaced and they failed to get it tight enough? any ideas here? i'm gonna try to pump smoke in the gas tank and see if smoke comes out anywhere? will post the results when done. providing i can get the smoke machine to pump smoke onto the filler and seal there when pumping.

so i'm hoping the pump on the drivers side is good so i don't have to cut that one out. the tube going to the drivers side pump is not tight as some suggested. thanks
